Trial litigation boutique Murphy Rosen & Cohen LLP announced today that Robert L. Meylan will be joining
the firm as a partner effective October 1, 2007.
Meylan is a business litigator with clients such as Bearing
Point and Certain Underwriters at Lloyds, London. Meylan is perhaps best known for obtaining a defense verdict
against Mattel in a hotly contested trademark trial involving Mattel's Hotwheels brand (Mattel v. Realtoy
International). The Los Angeles Daily Journal selected that victory as one of its Top 10 Defense Verdicts
in California in 2005.
"We are absolutely thrilled to have him," said Murphy Rosen
& Cohen's managing partner Paul Murphy. "Bob was someone we targeted back in 2003 when we branched off from O'Neill, Lysaght & Sun LLP and started our firm. We couldn't convince him to join us initially, but I think he has watched our firm grow and watched our successes, and he now realizes what a great fit this can be." Murphy said. He added, "It feels like Bob is coming home."
Murphy and named partner David Rosen were partners with Meylan at O'Neill, Lysaght & Sun. In November 2003,
the O'Neill firm was essentially merged into Jones Day. Murphy and Rosen elected not to go to Jones Day and,
instead, along with their law school friend Philip Cohen, founded Murphy Rosen & Cohen. The firm's practice
includes both civil business litigation and criminal defense, with a heavy emphasis on taking cases to trial. In
a relatively short period of time, the firm has had an impressive string of trial victories and is staking a claim
as a rising litigation boutique firm in Los Angeles. Meylan is expected to further bolster the firm's civil
business litigation department. His practice covers a broad range of business litigation, including
intellectual property, insurance coverage and business torts.
Meylan is eager to get to his new firm. "I am really excited to join their firm and especially to rejoin Paul
and David. Practicing together at O'Neill for ten years taught me that they are great guys and two of the very best
lawyers I know. I am looking forward to trying cases with them and continuing to build on their success."
